Franklin's first repo jobs still feel weirdly fresh for a game that hit PS3 and Xbox 360 on September 17, 2013. If you're coming back now, GTA 5 cheats are still the fastest way to turn Los Santos into a clown fire, though the cash grind for GTA 5 Money is a whole different beast online. Short version: story mode cheats let you spawn rides, mess with physics, and juice your character, but they don't work in GTA Online.
I tested the usual PS4 inputs again after the PS5 version dropped on March 15, 2022, and yep, the classics still kick in. Triangle, Right, Right, Left, Right, Square, Circle, Left gives you invincibility for five minutes on PlayStation. Circle, L1, Triangle, R2, X, Square, Circle, Right, Square, L1, L1, L1 spawns the Buzzard, which remains the lazy person's answer to half the map. On PC, you can just type stuff like PAINKILLER or BUZZOFF into the console, which feels almost too clean. Trophies and achievements get blocked for that session, so don't pop a code right before a mission medal run unless you enjoy wasting your own time.
160 million copies is a silly number. No shot most games get three console generations, a PC launch on April 14, 2015, and then a shiny PS5 and Xbox Series X/S pass with 4K and 60 FPS. The 2022 Enhanced version bumps up the feel more than the look, honestly. Some faces still scream 2013, but driving through Vinewood at 60 frames is smooth enough that I stop caring until a cutscene zooms in on someone's rubbery ears.
Michael, Franklin, and Trevor are still the trick. Switching between them keeps missions from turning into the same shootout loop, and Rockstar knew exactly when to yank the camera away from one disaster into another. I replayed the cliffside house mission recently, the one where you rip the support beams down with the tow truck, and it's still better staged than a ton of newer open-world quests. Trevor's intro also hasn't aged into “normal,” which is probably the point. Steven Ogg went full chaos goblin, and the game just builds around it.
Depends what bugs you. Gunplay works, but after Red Dead Redemption 2, it feels kinda stiff, like your DPS is being filtered through old controller glue. The DualSense phone-call speaker on PS5 is a neat little touch, though; hearing Lamar bark out of the pad while I'm driving badly through traffic got me grinning like an idiot. Ray tracing on console helps with reflections, but PC players still don't have clear official info on what hardware will get every Enhanced Edition perk. Take that with a grain of salt when you see “max settings” claims on random forums.
Game Informer's December 2012 cover was a big deal because it nailed early info on the huge map and the three-character setup before launch. That's why people got jumpy about a rumored May 2026 Game Informer cover for GTA 6, then got mad when it was The Blood of Dawnwalker instead. That tracks. Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, but the November 19 date floating around isn't official, and neither is the rumored $70 standard price. Summer marketing could heat up because Take-Two has been hinting at the hype machine, but guessing Rockstar timing is a bad build with terrible RNG.
So if you're playing now, treat GTA 5 like two games sharing one city. Story mode is where cheats, weird side missions, alien drug trips, and dumb stunt runs shine; GTA Online is where cash, cars, meta loadouts, and the grind eat your evening. If you don't want to grind and you're tempted to buy GTA 5 Money, just know what version and platform you're dealing with first, because transfer rules between console and PC have been messy in the 2024 to 2025 window. Los Santos is still worth booting up, but it pays to know which sandbox you're stepping into.
